A Call to Rebuild California's Commitment to Education.
|
We must ensure our voices are heard in Sacramento as the state budget is deliberated. Caravan for Kids is a statewide project to mobilize Californians who care about our schools -- from San Diego to Eureka -- with a unified message protesting Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed budget and calling for a campaign in support of California's kids.
Communities throughout the state will mobilize education activists to fill at least one bus with parents (and their children, if possible) that would travel to Sacramento to rally for kids and their schools. The Caravan will be scheduled so that activists can participate with parent and student delegates to the California State PTA Convention in a rally and press event at the Capitol on the opening day of the Convention - Thursday, April 28.

Simultaneous News Conferences in Each Media Market |
News Conference Theme: Local PTA leaders, other parents and children protest the Governor's proposed budget. We want to ensure the truth about school funding cuts is understood and will discuss the impact on local schools. At the news conferences, participants will announce their departure for Sacramento and call on the Governor and Legislature to keep their promise to our kids. We will urge them to honor the funding agreement made last year, repay funds borrowed from the schools and protect Proposition 98 -- the Constitutional funding guarantee for public education approved by the voters. |

| Rally in Sacramento at the Capitol Steps - Then Lobby State Representatives |
The Caravan for Our Kids will land us in Sacramento where we'll spend the night and join with thousands of PTA convention delegates for a rally at the Capitol. Local PTA leaders will then go inside the Capitol to personally deliver their message to their own state Assembly and Senate representatives.

Time is short. Let's make April 27-28 a PTA Success Story.

Let's make California's schools great again!
