The Story Project is an afterschool literacy program for at-risk youth. The Story Project is designed to sharpen the reading and writing skills of young people with the assistance of mentors in the entertainment industry.

These mentors help kids find their individual voices and creatively express themselves through journal writing, photography, drawing, and script writing for film and television.

Founded in 1997 by Ted Hartley (President, RKO Pictures), and Dina Merrill (Vice President, RKO Pictures), The Story Project has reached thousands of community members through after-school programs, educational presentations, multicultural events, and workshops in Los Angeles County.

The Story Project takes place on Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m.
in the Library, October through February
