To request recycling bins for your apartment building, call Nick Hare (310.458.8507), a superintendent with the department of Solid Waste Systems. When Kathy called, Nick got her two bins and arranged for weekly curbside pickup as long as she consented to be responsible for moving them out to the street every week.
Kathy says: "My experience proves that you don't have to wait for the city to offer you recycling - you can go after it.
My next project is to pass out flyers with this info to all the other apartments and homes on this block. As of now, my building is the only building with curbside recycling, but if other people request it, we could get the whole block recycling!!"
